Palm Sunday marks Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem for the Jewish holiday of Passover. As he rode on a donkey, the crowd spread cloaks and branches on the road before him.

The word "Maundy" is derived from the Latin word "mandatum" meaning "command" or "order" and relates to Jesus' commandment in John 13:34 — "...just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another."

The Service of Tenebrae, which means “darkness,” is an extended meditation on the cross of Christ. The service concludes without a benediction in anticipation of the resurrection of our Lord on Easter morning.
