Sunday Online Gathering

Dear Fourth Church,

For this Sunday, once again I have prerecorded my sermon, along with Scripture readings, prayers, and family news. To make this “online gathering” more self-contained, the video includes audio of hymns recorded at Fourth services in the past, with lyrics on screen. I encourage you to listen, sing, and pray along with the video as you worship at home.

  • Download the children’s bulletin to help your children follow the themes of today’s service and the sermon. It includes Catechism review and Scripture memory verse.
  • Please note that you can share this service with others by using the share buttons at the bottom of this page.

Old Testament Reading
Psalm 95:6-7

6  Oh come, let us worship and bow down;
let us kneel before the LORD, our Maker!
7  For he is our God,
and we are the people of his pasture,
and the sheep of his hand.

Hymn (included in the video above)

Speak O Lord

Speak, O Lord, as we come to You
To receive the food of Your Holy Word.
Take Your truth, plant it deep in us;
Shape and fashion us in Your likeness,
That the light of Christ might be seen today
In our acts of love and our deeds of faith.
Speak, O Lord, and fulfill in us
All Your purposes for Your glory.

Teach us, Lord, full obedience,
Holy reverence, true humility;
Test our thoughts and our attitudes
In the radiance of Your purity.
Cause our faith to rise; cause our eyes to see
Your majestic love and authority.
Words of pow’r that can never fail—
Let their truth prevail over unbelief.

Speak, O Lord, and renew our minds;
Help us grasp the heights of Your plans for us—
Truths unchanged from the dawn of time
That will echo down through eternity.
And by grace we’ll stand on Your promises,
And by faith we’ll walk as You walk with us.
Speak, O Lord, till Your church is built
And the earth is filled with Your glory.

Prayer of Intercession and the Lord’s Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

New Testament Reading
Philippians 4:4-7 (ESV)

4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Sermon

“Peace in Uncertain Times”

Hymn (included in the video above)

The King of Love My Shepherd Is

The King of love my shepherd is,
whose goodness faileth never.
I nothing lack if I am his,
and he is mine forever.

Where streams of living water flow,
my ransomed soul he leadeth;
and where the verdant pastures grow,
with food celestial feedeth.

Perverse and foolish, oft I strayed,
but yet in love he sought me;
and on his shoulder gently laid,
and home, rejoicing, brought me.

And so through all the length of days,
thy goodness faileth never;
Good Shepherd, may I sing thy praise
within thy house forever.
