What Is "Summer Staff"?

"Summer Staff" is the name of our Youth Ministry's summer internship program at Fourth Presbyterian Church, located in the Washington, D.C., metro area. Each year, 14 college-age young adults commit to serving God by ministering to middle and high school students at Fourth. There also are Summer Staff internship opportunities which serve the College Ministry. Applicants must be at least in their freshman year of college (or be age equivalent) to qualify. Decisions on applicants are based upon the completed application, references, and interviews with full-time staff. A limited number of Summer Staff positions are available each year and not all who apply will receive a position.

Thank you for considering applying for summer staff. Fourth has been blessed by a rich tradition of college-aged young men and women who give their summers to serve Christ and the students of Fourth. As you prayerfully consider this ministry opportunity, please understand that expectations are high. This is a full-time summer job, six days a week, so you will not be able to have other employment during the summer as our work days and hours vary greatly.

You will be overseeing, supervising, and caring for students of a specific grade and gender. You will also be planning and running various programs ranging from weekly events to week-long, off-site trips. Each week you will spend time mentoring students, regularly pointing them to Christ. The Summer Staff commitment starts Wednesday, May 24, 2023 and the last day is Friday, August 4, 2023, unless there is necessary makeup work as discussed with and approved by the Youth and College Director.

You will be paid a stipend as well as part of an offering from our congregation at the end of the summer. For those from outside the DC area, we also provide housing with a member of the church. Many of your meals will be covered as well as all activities and trips for the youth.

Please know, for the safety of our students, staff and ministry, we reserve the right to terminate your position at any time for any unbiblical conduct, safety reasons, or actions detrimental to the body of Christ.
