The Lord’s Day, August 22

Dear Fourth Church,

“The Church’s One Foundation”, one of our hymns this morning, was penned in the 1860s during a time of doctrinal controversy in the Church of England. Its author, young minister Samuel J. Stone, intended the hymn as a versification of the ninth article of the Apostle’s Creed, “I believe in . . . the holy catholic church, the communion of saints.” His goal was to help parishioners better grasp the breadth and depth of the Creed’s meaning.

May the Lord give each of us grace to know the depth and richness of all that we sing, pray, confess, and hear preached this day.

As always, if you are unable to attend services today, the 9:30 service is available by livestream. You can view the livestream or dial 855-217-0187 to listen by phone. Both methods are available in real time or later on demand.
